MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich. The Muskegon County Road Commission will implement seasonal weight and speed restrictions beginning Monday, February 16, at 6 a.m., in conjunction with neighboring road commissions.
Seasonal restrictions are implemented each year to protect roadways during the spring freeze-thaw cycle. As temperatures rise, frost leaves the ground and roadbeds become saturated, making them more vulnerable to damage from heavier vehicle loads.
During the restriction period, legal axle loads must be reduced by 35 percent and truck speeds are limited to 35 mph on non all-season and posted roads. These temporary measures help preserve roadway integrity, extend the life of the road system, and reduce costly repairs.
Motorists and commercial drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted signage. All-season route information is available by contacting the Road Commission. For additional information, contact the Muskegon County Road Commission at 231-788-2380 or visit https://muskegoncountyroads.org/.
